Which family relationships qualify?

Answer not available

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

EEA and Swiss nationals with a residence permit may be joined by family members at any time; students may only be joined by their spouse and proven-dependent children.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

An official certificate confirming the family relationship, custody or maintenance; the Migration and Passport Office may request original proof. A permit is refused or revoked if the marriage was mainly entered into or kept up to circumvent the law, or one spouse was forced to marry.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

For sponsors under Art. 17, 18 and 22 PFZG (students, tourists/service recipients, non-employed), proof of sufficient funds for all family members so that no social assistance is needed; in all cases comprehensive health insurance covering all risks in Liechtenstein.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Family members may work. Relatives of persons with permanent residence or settlement get a residence permit valid five years; relatives of short-term or residence permit holders get the same validity as the sponsor. After five years' uninterrupted residence, relatives of EEA nationals get permanent residence, and relatives of Swiss nationals (residence permit) get settlement. The official source does not state the application process.
