Which family relationships qualify?

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The wife must provide a certified copy of a document establishing the marriage. The family application also requires the approved form, a colour copy of a passport valid for at least one year with two copies, three photographs, and a copy of the worker’s annual residence permit.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The wife and adult children provide a notarised undertaking not to work; for minor children, the head of the family provides a notarised maintenance undertaking. The Arabic instructions also require an investigation report proving absence of work.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The application is forwarded through the Arabs and Foreigners Department to the Director General’s Nationality, Passports and Foreigners Affairs Office for a decision. The permission is annual residence subject to passport validity, with a maximum grant of one year. The family category is charged the same fee as the head of the family and requires non-work evidence.
