Which travellers require a transit visa/permission and which officially documented exemptions are important?

The official 2023 Entry and Visa Exemption Order, effective 1 September 2023, exempts citizens on its list from obtaining a transit visa before travelling to and being in Kiribati as transit passengers. The current Immigration Division page likewise says visa-exempt travellers need no advance transit visa and non-exempt travellers must apply in advance. Nationality must be checked against the Order’s list; exemption does not itself guarantee entry permission.

Limits of the record
  • The official 2023 Order supplies the exemption list and travel-document conditions; this answer does not determine an individual traveller’s nationality or other admissibility.

Can the traveller remain airside, and under what circumstances must immigration control be crossed?

Answer not available

See recorded sources
Limits of the record
  • The official 2020 manual defines transit passengers and transit visas; the current portal gives advance-visa treatment and fees. Neither document establishes whether an international transit passenger may stay airside or when immigration control must be crossed.

What officially documented baggage collection, terminal, separate-ticket or self-transfer situations affect the immigration requirement?

Answer not available

Limits of the record
  • No cited Kiribati immigration or official airport/carrier source sets a baggage collection, terminal-change, separate-ticket or self-transfer rule, or establishes when those facts require immigration control. A transit visa category alone does not answer this operational question.

What maximum transit period, overnight, airport-change or multiple-stop rules matter?

The 2020 manual states that a Transit Visa holder may stay only for the transit period specified by the visa, without giving a universal numerical maximum; on expiry an officer may, at discretion, extend the period or grant a visa and entry permission. The current Immigration Division portal lists a multiple-entry Transit Visa with one-year validity, which is a validity period rather than permission for a year-long connection. Overnight, airport-change and multiple-stop rules are not specified by this official set.

Limits of the record
  • The numerical maximum transit connection period and overnight/airport-change/multiple-stop rules remain unestablished; current effect of the 2020 manual's discretion clause is not independently confirmed.

If permission is required, what permission is it, where/how is it obtained, and what core onward-travel evidence is required?

For transit through Kiribati, the current Immigration Division page says nationals covered by the visa exemption need no advance transit visa, while non-exempt nationals must apply before travel. It lists single-entry and multiple-entry transit visas and says travellers must hold a confirmed return or onward flight ticket. The page does not give the remaining application-document checklist, family inclusion or an airport self-transfer procedure.

Limits of the record
  • The current public page confirms advance-visa scope, listed transit visa types and an onward-ticket requirement; other detailed application documents and family inclusion in the 2020 manual have not been reconfirmed for the present process.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
