What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The family-member checklist requires one document proving the relationship between the applicant and the supporting entrepreneur, such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate, plus a copy of the supporter’s residence card or passport. Documents in a foreign language require a Japanese translation; certificates issued in Japan must have been issued within the preceding three months. The authority may request further material during examination.

Limits of the record
  • This checklist does not establish all substantive dependency, custody or qualifying-family conditions set out in the separately referenced ministerial public notice.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance requirements.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The visa application is made at a Japanese embassy or consulate with a passport, visa application form, photograph and Certificate of Eligibility (the child may apply without a Certificate of Eligibility, but having one is recommended); additional documents may be required depending on nationality. The period of stay given for the Start-up Visa is 6 months. The official source does not state the child's rights or a path to independent or longer-term status.

Limits of the record
  • Rights of the child, renewal and longer-term route are not stated; the 6-month period is given for the visa page generally, not specifically for the child.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
