Missionary work and other religious activities carried out by religious workers dispatched to Japan by a foreign religious organisation (e.g. missionaries) qualify.

See recorded sources

What organisation, institution, religious body, charity, teacher or host must support the activity?

The person must be dispatched by a foreign religious organisation; the application documents the dispatching organisation and the receiving organisation in Japan (denomination, history, representative, organisation, facilities, number of believers, etc.).

What proves the placement, role, affiliation, experience or cultural/religious/voluntary activity?

A copy of the dispatch letter or similar from the foreign religious organisation proving the dispatch period, position and remuneration; materials on the dispatching and receiving organisations; and documents proving the applicant's position and career as a religious worker (not needed if stated in the dispatch letter).

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm whether pay, pocket money, accommodation or other work is allowed.

How long can they stay, can they change host/activity, can family accompany, and can the status be extended?

Period of stay: 5 years, 3 years, 1 year or 3 months. Holders continuing the activity apply for an extension of period of stay, supported by documents proving the dispatch continues. The official source does not state whether the host or activity can be changed or whether family members may accompany.
