How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

An extension of the period of stay is available to continue the activity. To extend, the household income must still be at least 8 million yen and the parent must plan to raise the under-7 child, or support the pregnancy, continuously for 3 months or more, counted from the expiry of the current period of stay. The official source does not state the initial application process, the length of the period of stay or a path to independent status.
