What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

Permanent residence allows a foreign national to live and work in Jamaica without restrictions on their stay and without applying for a work permit or Jamaican citizenship; holders are not afforded the same constitutional rights as a Jamaican citizen. The application is made to PICA with a letter stating the reason for permanent residence addressed to the CEO, PICA, and all documents submitted must be original. As part of the approval process, applicants are interviewed by the Agency’s Investigation and Surveillance Unit. Applications are usually processed within 3 to 6 months. The official source does not state renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules for the status.
