How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The application is filed online with all documents and the fee is paid; documents are checked, then the couple is interviewed and a decision is made; if approved, the foreign spouse receives a residence permit in Israel. For marriage to a citizen, the graduated procedure lasts a total of 4 years with an A/5 temporary residence permit, renewed each year subject to the procedure's conditions and the absence of any hindrance, with an interview of both spouses before each extension. At the end of the graduated procedure the applicant may apply for permanent residency or naturalisation under procedures 5.2.0008 and 5.2.0011. The official source does not state the work or other rights attached to the A/5 permit.
