An extension, for special humanitarian reasons, of permits for foreign workers in the nursing sector, requested through an application for a humanitarian committee.

Which population, circumstances or geographic group does the mechanism cover?

It covers persons who require nursing care and who hold an active and valid (not conditional) work permit for a foreign care worker in the nursing sector; the application must include a medical opinion stating that termination of the foreign care worker's employment will result in significant harm to the person receiving care.

Where can protection be requested, and is this a direct application, border/in-country request, referral or other process?

Submitted through an authorised private foreign care worker agency; by post to the Population and Immigration Authority, Humanitarian Committee, Permits Department, 42 Agrippa Street, Jerusalem; or in person at the Foreign Care Worker Permits Department, 42 Agrippa Street, Floor 5 (Monday 8am to midday and 2.30pm to 6pm; Tuesday 8am to midday). A representative with power of attorney may apply on the applicant's behalf.

What happens after the request: registration, family handling, major support and rights where officially stated?

The foreign care worker's affidavit must acknowledge that if the application is denied they must leave Israel and cannot be part of another person's application; if it is granted they may continue in the applicant's employment and must leave Israel when that employment ends; if they end the employment they must also leave Israel.
