For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Travellers from visa-exempt countries need no visa but must obtain an electronic travel authorisation (ETA-IL) before arriving in Israel; this has applied since 1 January 2025, and without an ETA entry will not be allowed. Israeli citizens or holders of an Israeli identity number do not need an ETA-IL.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The ETA-IL covers tourism, doing business, and travel for non-work and non-medical purposes.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The stay is up to 90 days per visit. The ETA-IL is generally valid for multiple trips over up to two years from approval or until the passport expires, whichever comes first; a new passport or a change of name, gender or country of citizenship requires a new authorisation. An ETA only allows the traveller to reach the border crossing and does not grant permission to enter or reside; a border control officer may refuse entry.
