Which travellers require a transit visa/permission and which officially documented exemptions are important?

Visa nationals must hold entry clearance as a Standard visitor, Marriage/Civil Partnership visitor or Transit visitor. A transit visitor travelling on an emergency travel document from a non-visa-national country, returning to their country of ordinary residence, does not need a visa.
