A person seeking leave to enter the Isle of Man on the grounds of his Isle of Man, United Kingdom or Channel Islands ancestry may be given leave to enter for a period not exceeding 5 years, subject to a condition on study as set out in Appendix ATAS of these Rules, provided he is able to produce to the Immigration Officer, on arrival, a valid Isle of Man entry clearance for entry in this capacity.

What application progression, residence obligations, family consequences or further citizenship/residence possibilities follow?

An extension of stay may be granted for up to 5 years (Appendix ATAS study condition) if the paragraph 189 requirements are met, including continuing to meet paragraph 186(i)-(v). Indefinite leave to remain may be granted to a Commonwealth citizen with an Isle of Man, UK or Channel Islands born grandparent who meets paragraph 186(i)-(v), has spent a continuous period of 5 years lawfully in the Isle of Man in this capacity, and has shown sufficient knowledge of English and of life in the United Kingdom and Islands (Appendix KoLL).
