What must actually exist or be demonstrated: business plan, company, innovation, clients, contracts, economic activity, job creation or other substance?

The business or business idea must be assessed by the Department for Enterprise (the only endorsing body in the Isle of Man for the Business Migrant route), which provides a Letter of Endorsement if the business is viable; the Letter of Endorsement must be provided with the application.

Limits of the record
  • The substantive endorsement criteria are in the Department for Enterprise Endorsement Policy, which is not in the captured page.

What investment, capital, income, revenue, funding or viability evidence is central to this pathway?

The applicant must have held at least £945 in their bank account for 90 consecutive days before applying; money from investment funds or from illegal work in the Isle of Man or UK cannot be used to meet this. The official page states no investment-fund amount for the Start-up route.

Limits of the record
  • The page states no investment-fund amount for the Start-up route; this silence is not an official statement that no investment minimum applies.

What business/self-employed activity may the holder conduct? Are there important restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

The holder may bring family members and work in another job as well as working for the business. The holder cannot get public funds, work as a doctor or dentist in training, or work as a professional sportsperson (e.g. sports coach).

What approval/application sequence applies, how long is the status granted, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction is officially stated?

A single Start-up visa grant lasts 2 years 4 months and cannot be extended. Separately, if the endorsement is withdrawn and the holder is granted a new Start-up visa with a new endorsement, total stay across Start-up visas is capped at 2 years.

Limits of the record
  • The government page states these two figures in different subsections (the single-grant duration, and the total-stay cap after a withdrawn endorsement and new grant) without reconciling why the cap (2 years) is shorter than the single-grant duration (2 years 4 months). This is a gap in the source itself, not resolved by inference.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
