Category C sponsors: employment permit holders other than Critical Skills, and independent Stamp 4 holders who are eligible to sponsor. All other non-EEA nationals are not eligible sponsors.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

A marriage or civil partnership certificate recognisable under Irish law. If the sponsor's residence in Ireland began before the marriage, a full account of the relationship history is also needed.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The Category C sponsor must have had a gross income above €30,000 in the previous year (couple, no children), expected to be maintained. The sponsor must present documentary evidence of suitable accommodation for the family without recourse to public funds; this proof is not required at the initial application but may be requested later, and an immigration officer may ask non-visa-required family members for it at the border. A rented tenancy must be registered with the RTB.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Applications are dealt with within 12 months of receiving all documents. Permitted activities depend on the permission granted after entry. Residence depends on the sponsor. An independent permission may be sought after at least 5 years of lawful residence. The official source does not state the permission type granted or its duration.
