What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The visit visa covers religious events or visits to the holy sites. Under the same visa heading, visas are also granted for 30 days to public and political figures, businessmen and investors, and people whose visit the ambassador or chargé d'affaires judges to be of interest.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Under the Foreign Residence Law No. 76 of 2017, a visit visa allows one entry into Iraq within 90 days of the date it is granted and a stay of 30 days; the holder may not work anywhere in Iraq, paid or unpaid. A tourist visa is granted for visiting tourist and religious areas and allows one entry within 60 days of the date it is granted and a stay of 30 days; it is sponsored by institutions, bodies and companies working in tourism, but no sponsorship is required for individual or family tourism, and the holder may not work, paid or unpaid. The Director General of Residence may extend either visa once, for a double fee, and may change a visit or tourist visa into an ordinary visa. What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The general visa-request conditions include a passport valid at least six months, an application form with two photographs, ability to cover living costs for ordinary-passport holders, and a full Iraqi address.
