Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

For E31G, the family member is the foreign parent of an Indonesian-citizen child. The Indonesian-citizen child supplies the visa request letter; the sponsor files through an evisa.imigrasi.go.id account. The route asks for proof of the parent-child legal relationship shown on the child’s family card.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The applicant must prove the legal parent-child relationship as recorded in the child's family card with one of the following: a birth certificate issued by the competent Indonesian authority; a birth certificate translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator (unless in English) if the child was born abroad; or a child-determination deed (akta penetapan anak) if the child is not a biological child or was born outside marriage.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The sponsor applies online through evisa.imigrasi.go.id; the Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) and Re-entry Permit are issued automatically when the holder is admitted at the immigration checkpoint. The holder may live and study in Indonesia, and may enter and leave Indonesia while the Re-entry Permit is valid. The stay is 1 or 2 years (applicant's choice) from arrival; the permit can be extended online and can be transferred to another stay permit. The official source does not state a path to status independent of the sponsor.

Limits of the record
  • The page says the permit can be transferred to 'another stay permit' but does not name which one (e.g. ITAP) or the conditions for it.
  • The page does not say whether or how the family member can obtain a status independent of the sponsor.
