Which family relationships qualify?

MHA visa details state that family members/dependents of a foreigner granted an Employment ('E') visa may be granted a dependent visa of appropriate sub-category. For Japanese nationals specifically, a multiple-entry dependent visa may be issued to family members defined as spouse and children who are dependent on the applicant and form part of the same household.

Applications are made online in the standard form via indianvisaonline.gov.in, with the applicant present within the jurisdiction of the Indian Mission/Post when applying and when the visa is granted. The dependent visa is co-terminus with the principal Employment visa (or shorter as the Mission decides); family members may also obtain a Student/Research visa if otherwise eligible; the FRRO/FRO can extend it for a total of 5 years from the initial visa, co-terminus with the principal's visa. Work rights and a route to permanent residence are not stated.
