A Conference visa is issued in advance for attending a conference/seminar/workshop; for e-Visa-eligible nationals, attending a conference/seminar/workshop is also an e-Visa purpose.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The High Commission of India, Gaborone currently lists attending international conferences, seminars or workshops under Business Visa subcategory B-5. This is the current consular purpose mapping for the legacy Conference Visa route; the 2018 Annex used a separate Conference Visa label.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Missions may grant the regular Conference visa for the required period at their discretion (delegates other than Pakistani nationals may combine tourism). The e-Conference visa is valid 30 days from arrival with multiple entry.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

For a regular Conference Visa application at the Indian consulate in Marseille, the host invitation must identify the event, dates, venue, purpose, duration and delegate registration where applicable; MEA/MHA clearance is requested if applicable. The e-Visa portal separately requires a return or onward ticket and sufficient money for the stay. These requirements belong to different application channels and the consular document list is specific to Marseille. For the Marseille regular application, the original passport must have at least six months validity and two blank pages.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Prior MHA clearance of the event is required only in the listed cases: participants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistani origin and stateless persons; and participants required to visit Restricted or Protected areas, Jammu & Kashmir and the North Eastern States (other than Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland). Participants from the specified countries apply online at the Indian Mission. A foreigner already in India on a Business/Employment/Student/Research visa may seek FRRO/FRO permission to attend. The official source does not state whether the visa can be extended.
