Is this for a founder, startup entrepreneur, self-employed person, freelancer, company owner or another business profile?

The Business Visa covers business visitors with listed purposes, including foreign nationals who wish to establish, or explore setting up, an industrial/business venture in India (other than proprietorship and partnership firms), those coming for technical meetings/discussions or board/general meetings to provide business services support, and foreign nationals who are partners in the business and/or directors of the company.

What investment, capital, income, revenue, funding or viability evidence is central to this pathway?

The applicant must be a person of assured financial standing; proof of financial standing and of expertise in the intended business is checked when the visa is granted. For a visa granted to establish a business venture, extension up to five years is subject to gross sales/turnover from that business of not less than Rs.1 crore per annum, to be achieved within 2 years of setting up the business or of the initial visa grant, whichever is earlier.

    In case Business visa is granted for a period less than five years by the Indian Missions, the same can be extended up to a maximum period of five years subject to the gross sales/turnover from the business activities, for which the foreigner has been granted visa, is not less than Rs.1 crore per annum (to be achieved within 2 years of setting up the business or date of initial grant of B visa, whichever is earlier) [This condition will be applicable in case of Business Visa covered under para 40 (i) above.]

The holder must not be visiting India for the business of money lending, running a petty business or petty trade, or full-time employment in India. Family members/dependants of a Business Visa holder are granted a dependant visa of the appropriate sub-category, valid co-terminus with the principal's visa or for a shorter period set by the Mission, and may also be granted a Student/Research Visa if otherwise eligible.
