For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Whether a visa is needed for visits under 90 days depends on nationality, and the official checker gives the answer step by step. A Schengen visa from any Schengen state is valid for Iceland. UK nationals need no visa for short stays.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel and passport evidence.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Applications are made at the embassy or consulate of the main-destination Schengen state, usually where the applicant lives; Iceland issues visas in London, New Delhi, Beijing and Washington and via other Schengen states in about 120 cities. The fee is EUR 90 (EUR 45 ages 6-12) and processing takes about two weeks. A visa under 90 days can be extended for force majeure, humanitarian or serious personal reasons, by email to visa@utn.is.
