For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

A national of a visa-required country needs a visa valid for entry into the Faroe Islands and/or Greenland; the visa sticker must state it is valid there, and a Danish or other Schengen visa is not valid for entry. Nationals of visa-exempt countries who can enter Denmark without a visa, and people staying in Denmark or another Schengen country on a valid residence permit entitling them to enter and reside in Denmark, need no visa.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The official page refers to visa guidance for private and tourist visits, business visits and cultural visits; it does not itself define which purposes the Greenland visa covers.

Limits of the record
  • The purposes appear only as links to general Danish visa guidance; the page does not itself define which purposes the Greenland visa covers.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The route covers a short-term visit of up to 90 days. The official source does not state a rolling-period rule, visa validity or number of entries.

Limits of the record
  • No rolling-period rule, visa validity or number-of-entries rule is stated on the page.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The general Danish visa conditions apply; documentation of the planned stay in Greenland must be included; travel medical insurance is not required if the visa is valid only for the Faroe Islands or Greenland; an EU/Schengen (non-Nordic) ID card does not grant entry, so a passport is needed.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

The application procedure is the same as for a Danish visa, and only one application form is needed even when also applying for a Schengen visa for the same trip; the source does not state a separate extension or change-of-purpose procedure for this visa.

The application procedure for a visa to enter the Faroe Islands or Greenland is the same as for a visa to Denmark. You only need to complete one application form, even if you also apply for a Schengen visa in connection with your travel to the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
