What exact status does accumulated residence lead to?

A Permanent Residence Card (Deltio Monimis Diamonis, residence permit type M.3) for family members of a Greek citizen; the family member's residence card converts automatically into it at expiry when the continuity conditions are met.

What absence/continuity rules affect accumulation of the qualifying residence period?

An interruption of residence not exceeding two consecutive years from the expiry of the Residence Card does not affect the right to obtain the Permanent Residence Card.

What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

The right is not subject to the conditions of art. 93(3)-(4). Apply to the one-stop service within 3 months of entry or up to 2 months before the residence card expires (EUR 50 fine if not filed within 1 year of expiry); issued by the Secretary of the Decentralised Administration subject to public order/security and renewed automatically every 10 years; after obtaining it, the right is lost only by absence from Greece exceeding 2 consecutive years. No fee for issuing the card.

Το μέλος της οικογένειας Έλληνα που επιθυμεί τη χορήγηση Δελτίου Μόνιμης Διαμονής τύπου «Μ.3» του άρθρου 161, οφείλει να υποβάλει αίτηση στην αρμόδια υπηρεσία μίας στάσης, εντός τριών (3) μηνών από την ημερομηνία εισόδου του στη χώρα ή έως δύο (2) μήνες πριν από τη λήξη της ισχύος του Δελτίου Διαμονής του. Σε περίπτωση μη υποβολής της αίτησης εντός ενός (1) έτους από την ημερομηνία λήξης του Δελτίου Διαμονής, επιβάλλεται χρηματικό πρόστιμο ύψους πενήντα (50) ευρώ.

    3. Το Δελτίο Μόνιμης Διαμονής χορηγείται με απόφαση του Γραμματέα της οικείας αποκεντρωμένης δι- οίκησης, με την επιφύλαξη λόγων δημόσιας τάξης και ασφάλειας, και ανανεώνεται αυτοδικαίως κάθε δέκα (10) χρόνια.

    4. Μετά την απόκτηση Δελτίου Μόνιμης Διαμονής η απώλεια του δικαιώματος επέρχεται μόνο σε περίπτωση απουσίας του ενδιαφερόμενου από την Ελλάδα, για χρονικό διάστημα που υπερβαίνει τα δύο (2) συναπτά έτη.»
