What exact status does accumulated residence lead to?

An initial residence permit, type I.9 ("second-chance residence permit"), granted by decision of the Secretary of the Decentralised Administration.

What qualifying residence period is required and when does the period begin?

At least 5 years holding a final residence title or residence card under Law 4251/2014 or the Migration Code, which expired (or was issued and served after expiry) during the last year before the new article took effect and was not renewed, was revoked, or whose renewal was refused.

Only a lapse of that previous title for one of two reasons qualifies: the renewal application was rejected as late, or the application was rejected or the final title revoked because the legal conditions for renewal were not met.

What absence/continuity rules affect accumulation of the qualifying residence period?

The applicant must still live in Greece and must not have been absent for more than six months in total up to the date of application.

What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

The application requires a valid passport (or a decision of the Article 172 Committee that the applicant is objectively or temporarily without one) and proof of full sickness insurance; a non-refundable EUR 300 electronic fee is paid on application. The I.9 permit is granted once, valid two years from issue, gives access to dependent employment and to services or works, and is renewed under Article 12.

    β) Για την υποβολή της αίτησης χορήγησης της άδειας διαμονής απαιτείται η ύπαρξη διαβατηρίου σε ισχύ ή απόφαση της Επιτροπής του άρθρου 172, με την οποία έχουν κριθεί ως αντικειμενικά ή προσωρινά στερούμενοι διαβατηρίου και αποδεικτικά στοιχεία ότι διαθέτουν πλήρη ασφάλιση ασθένειας για το σύνολο των κινδύνων που καλύπτονται για τους ημεδαπούς.

    γ) Κατά την υποβολή της αίτησης, οι αιτούντες υποβάλουν αποδεικτικό ηλεκτρονικού παραβόλου ύψους τριακοσίων (300) ευρώ, το οποίο εισπράττεται υπέρ του ελληνικού δημοσίου και δεν επιστρέφεται, ανεξαρ- τήτως της κατάληξης της αίτησης.

    ε) Η άδεια διαμονής χορηγείται άπαξ, με διάρκεια ισχύος δύο (2) ετών από την ημερομηνία έκδοσης αυτής, παρέχει πρόσβαση στην εξαρτημένη εργασία, καθώς και στις υπηρεσίες ή σε έργα και ανανεώνεται σύμφωνα με το άρθρο 12.
