What exact activity, role or purpose qualifies?

Participation in a voluntary service programme lasting more than three months; the person must be admitted to the programme, hold a national visa for that purpose and be at least 18 years old (subject to European Voluntary Service rules).

See recorded sources

What organisation, institution, religious body, charity, teacher or host must support the activity?

A host organisation in Greece for the voluntary service programme, with which the volunteer has concluded an agreement; if the host is a private organisation, a certificate is needed that the programme is monitored, approved or supervised by a public authority.

See recorded sources

What proves the placement, role, affiliation, experience or cultural/religious/voluntary activity?

The agreement with the host must include a description of the programme, its duration, the placement and supervision terms and the hours of service (and, where relevant, training). Evidence is also needed that accommodation is adequate when the host lodges the volunteer, and that the host has civil-liability insurance. Documents must be submitted in Greek.

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

The agreement must state the resources available for the volunteer's living and housing costs and the minimum amount paid as pocket money throughout the stay. The volunteer must have sufficient resources for living and return-travel costs; grants, scholarships or funding commitments from the programme organisation count. The volunteer permit is listed among single residence-and-work permits only "when work is provided".

  • Whether volunteers may take other work is not stated explicitly.

How long can they stay, can they change host/activity, can family accompany, and can the status be extended?

The volunteer permit lasts up to one year; exceptionally, when the programme lasts longer than one year, it may be granted for the programme's duration. After it expires the volunteer must leave Greece immediately. The official source does not state family accompaniment or change of host rules.
