Which nationalities and age range can participate?

The German Federal Foreign Office’s German Working Holiday FAQ lists Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Taiwan and Uruguay. It says applicants are aged 18–30, except Korean nationals up to age 34. The German mission in Toronto separately describes a subset of other Working Holiday programmes as covering ages 18–35 inclusive. Consequently the published age ceiling for that Toronto-listed subset is inconsistent across the two official pages; the Korean 34-year exception is separately stated by the central FAQ.

Limits of the record
  • For Argentina, Australia, Chile, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and Uruguay, the central German FAQ says age 18–30 while the Toronto mission says age 18–35 inclusive; current controlling age by nationality is not reconciled by these pages.

What combination of travel, work, study or training does the programme permit?

A stay to gain insight into the culture and everyday life of the other country; holiday jobs may be taken to help finance it. The official source does not state work limits or whether study is permitted.

What are the defining limitations: quota, ballot, previous participation, employer limits, study limits or equivalent?

The official source does not state a quota, ballot, previous-participation, employer or study limit. Where to apply is restricted by nationality: Australians, Israelis, Japanese and New Zealanders at any German mission or after entry at the foreigners authority; Andorrans, Argentinians, Chileans and Uruguayans at any mission; Koreans only at the embassy in Seoul; Taiwanese only at the German Institute Taipei; applicants from Hong Kong only at the Consulate General Hong Kong and only if resident there; Brazilians only at German missions in Brazil.

Limits of the record
  • Quotas, previous participation and employer limits are left to each mission; not stated here.

What funds, insurance, onward travel or similar preparation is particularly important?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the required funds, insurance and return-travel preparation.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
