What absence/continuity rules affect accumulation of the qualifying residence period?

For a person forced into marriage and prevented from returning, the conditions can be waived if the application is made within three months after the coercion ends and at the latest five years after departure; where the eight-year residence/six-year schooling condition is met, the permit should be granted if applied for within three months after the coercion ends and at the latest ten years after departure. In such cases an existing residence title does not lapse through departure or absence. The official source states no general absence rule for the earlier residence period.

What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

Livelihood must be secured by own employment or by a third party's maintenance undertaking for five years. The permit may be refused if the person was or could have been expelled on leaving, if there is an interest in expulsion, or while a minor's personal care in Germany is not ensured. Extension is not barred if livelihood is no longer secured by own work or the five-year undertaking has ended. The official source does not state the application procedure.
