How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Family members coming for family reunification may work. The rules on children's residence (section 34) apply with the German's habitual residence in place of a residence title, so at majority the child's permit becomes independent. Children aged 16 or over may be entitled to a settlement permit under certain conditions.

Limits of the record
  • Conditions for the settlement permit for children aged 16+ are not detailed in the captured passage.
