Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The sponsor must be a foreigner holding a residence permit under s.23(4), s.25(1) or s.25(2) AufenthG, or a settlement permit under s.26(3)/(4). Family reunification under s.36a to persons with subsidiary protection is not granted until the end of 23 July 2027.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the evidence needed to prove the family relationship.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

Within three months of recognition the core family can join even without secured subsistence or sufficient living space; after the three-month period reunification remains possible, but the protection beneficiary must then show efforts to find work and own accommodation.

Limits of the record
  • BAMF page dated 01/03/2024; statute (s.29(2) sentence 1) makes the waiver discretionary ("kann") outside the window.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The privileged three-month window runs from final recognition (or from issue of the s.23(4) permit for resettled persons); if recognition follows a court judgment it starts after the new positive BAMF decision; a timely application by the sponsor also preserves the deadline. Family members who come for family reunification may take up work. The official source does not state the duration of the family member's permit or a route to independent or permanent status.

  • Duration of the family member's permit and route to independent/permanent status not stated in captured sources for this route.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
