For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

A visa is required unless the traveller is exempt from Georgian visa obligations under Georgian legislation; an alien who is not exempt and seeks to enter Georgia must first obtain a visa of the appropriate category.

Limits of the record
  • The captured sources do not list which nationalities are exempt from the Georgian visa requirement, so no nationality-specific claim can be made.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm which short-visit purposes this route covers.

Limits of the record
  • The page divides visas by category (Diplomatic, Special, Ordinary, Immigration, Transit) but does not itemize which specific short-visit purposes fall under Ordinary (C) as distinct from another category.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

A short-term single-entry visa may be issued for up to 30 calendar days. A short-term multiple-entry visa may be issued for up to five years, but the total period of entry and stay in Georgia within any 180-day period must not exceed 90 calendar days.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

From 1 January 2026 all tourists entering Georgia must present a valid health and accident insurance policy, in physical or electronic form and in Georgian or English, issued by a Georgian or foreign insurer with coverage of no less than GEL 30,000. A visa or entry may be refused if the alien lacks the documents necessary for entering Georgia, or lacks health and accident insurance or sufficient funds to reside in Georgia and return to the point of origin. In cases provided for by Georgian legislation, an invitation must be presented.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

A Georgian visa is granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by Georgian diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad; in exceptional cases defined by government ordinance it may be issued at the state border. Documentation may be submitted through the E-Application System or the e-Visa Portal depending on the purpose of travel; an alien staying abroad applies through the e-Visa Portal where a C category short-term electronic visa is required. The visa-extension provision covers short-term diplomatic and special visas and D3, D5 and D6 immigration visas and does not list the ordinary (C) visa. A residence permit cannot be issued on the basis of an ordinary C category visa, except an investment residence permit, a special residence permit and the temporary residence permits under Article 15(i) and (l) of the law.

Limits of the record
  • The sources do not state expressly whether an ordinary (C) short-term visa can be extended; it is simply absent from the extension list.
