What funds, insurance, onward travel or similar preparation is particularly important?

The agreement with the host family must be concluded before departure because it is needed for the visa; it sets pocket money (minimum EUR 320) and housing (room of at least 9 m2 with at least one window) and food conditions. The official source does not state insurance or return-travel requirements.
