What approval/application sequence applies, how long is the status granted, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction is officially stated?

If living abroad, the visa application is filed with the French consular authorities in the country of residence; for a business-creation or innovative project, an opinion on the project's real and serious nature must first be requested from the ministry in charge of the economy. For a stay under 12 months the consulate issues a long-stay visa serving as a residence permit marked 'talent', to be validated online within 3 months of arrival; for a stay of 1 year or more it issues a 3-month 'talent' long-stay visa and the card application is made online. If in France, the application is made online within 2 months of entry with a long-stay visa, or between 4 and 2 months before expiry of a VLS-TS or residence permit. The card is valid for a duration identical to the employment contract, up to a maximum of 4 years.
