Which family relationships qualify?

If the protected person is an unmarried minor, their parents may join through family reunification, possibly with the minor, unmarried siblings they effectively care for.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The sponsor is a person holding refugee status or subsidiary protection in France (or recognised stateless status) who has a residence permit. The procedure can start as soon as protection is obtained.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

Family members must have been declared to OFPRA when protection was requested, and the family links must pre-date the asylum request. They present civil-status records proving identity and family links; without them, elements of "possession d'état" and documents issued or authenticated by OFPRA.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance requirements.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Family members apply for a long-stay visa at the French consulate in their country of residence; if approved a visa sticker is placed on the travel document. They then apply online for a residence permit 4 to 2 months before the visa ends. Family of a refugee receive a 10-year resident card; family of a subsidiary-protection beneficiary receive a 4-year card; both allow work without an employer work authorisation.
