Which family relationships qualify?

Where the family link existed before 1 January 2021: direct descendant under 21 (or dependent), dependent direct ascendant, spouse, durable and duly attested partner, or dependent direct ascendant/descendant of the spouse; also a child born or legally adopted after 1 January 2021.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

Proof of the family link, registered partnership or duly attested cohabitation with the UK beneficiary, dating from before 1 January 2021 (except for children of the beneficiary or of the spouse); the link must still exist when applying.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

Proof of being supported by the UK beneficiary is required only for a child over 21 of the beneficiary or of the spouse, and for a parent of the beneficiary or of the spouse; proof of current residence in France is also required. The official source does not state an income threshold, accommodation standard or insurance requirement.

Apply at the prefecture (or sub-prefecture) of residence within 3 months of entering France (or within the year after turning 18); the card is free and valid 5 years, or 10 years where the person has resided in France for more than 5 years.
