What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

The applicant must be the beneficiary (ayant droit) of an Algerian receiving a death annuity for a work accident or occupational disease, paid by a French body. The application is made at the prefecture (or sub-prefecture) of residence; the first issue involves a compulsory OFII medical visit and the certificate is issued free of charge. It ceases to be valid after an absence from France of more than 3 consecutive years unless the administration agrees to extend the absence. Renewal is requested online between 4 and 2 months before the document expires and is free, but a late application (save force majeure or a valid visa) incurs a EUR 180 regularisation visa fee.
