If you have become a victim of human trafficking, or if there are reasonable grounds to suspect that you have become a victim, you may get a residence permit in Finland.

Which population, circumstances or geographic group does the mechanism cover?

Victims of human trafficking: a temporary permit covers victims who must stay in Finland because of a trafficking-related pre-trial investigation or court proceedings, who cooperate with the authorities and who are no longer in contact with the suspected traffickers; a victim in a particularly vulnerable position may get a continuous permit without the cooperation and proceedings conditions.

Where can protection be requested, and is this a direct application, border/in-country request, referral or other process?

The application is made in Finland, by paper application, followed by an in-person visit to a Finnish Immigration Service service point; a valid passport and secure means of support are not required.

What happens after the request: registration, family handling, major support and rights where officially stated?

A victim of trafficking may have no limits on the right to work and study in Finland; a continuous permit may allow family applications, while a temporary permit does not give that family-ties route. The official source does not state registration steps after the application.
