Ordinary residence in the Falkland Islands counts: a person who holds a Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) and has been ordinarily resident for at least 7 years immediately before making the status application is eligible for Falkland Islands status. The applicant (and any dependants) must have been physically present in the Falkland Islands on the first day of the 7-year qualifying period. What absence/continuity rules affect accumulation of the qualifying residence period?

The applicant must have been physically present for the whole of the first 180 days, not absent for more than 90 days in aggregate in any one of the 7 years, and not absent for more than 630 days in aggregate over the 7 years; all absences must be declared, and their duration and reasons are taken into account.
