What status is obtained, how is it renewed, what longer-term residence/citizenship direction is officially stated, and what happens to the investment when relevant?

The holder receives a temporary residence permit issued to a large investor for enterprise, which is a residence permit for enterprise. A temporary residence permit is issued with a period of validity of up to five years and may be extended for up to ten years at a time. The investment must be lasting during the period of validity of the residence permit: it must not be reduced, except due to fluctuations in its market price, or taken out of the company or investment fund. The company or investment fund may be changed during the validity of the permit if the new one meets the same requirements. The issue or extension may be refused or the permit revoked if the investment has not been made or is not lasting. A residence permit for a long-term resident may be issued to a foreign national who has resided in Estonia on the basis of a residence permit for at least the last five years, holds a valid temporary residence permit and meets further conditions, including permanent legal income, health insurance, the integration requirement and registration of the place of residence.
