All Eritrean visas are valid for three months from the date of issue, meaning arrival must fall within three months of issue; once in Eritrea the visa is typically valid for one month and can be extended/renewed by visiting Immigration in Asmara.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The Embassy business-visa checklist requires: proof of residency or a Permanent Resident Card for non-US citizens, a passport valid at least six months beyond the trip dates, a letter stating the purpose and duration of the trip, and proof of sufficient funds to cover all expenses.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Applications are made online by choosing the visa type and completing and submitting the visa application form and fee, then mailing the original passport to the Embassy of Eritrea in Washington, D.C.; the applicant travels on receipt of the visa. Business visa fees are $100 single, $150 for 3 months, $200 for 6 months and $300 for 1 year; a minimum of 15 business days is required for processing. Once in Eritrea, the visa can be extended or renewed by visiting Immigration in Asmara.
