What exactly is the official special programme/status and why does it exist?

By law, temporary residence is an entry and stay authorisation for a defined period of up to two years, renewable, for economic, scientific, academic, cultural or sports activities, specialised work or any other lawful temporary activity. However, the official form linked as 'F2 Residencia Temporal' (Instructivo F-02) covers temporary residence for transnational service workers.

The posting: either the employer sends the worker under a service contract with a recipient established or operating in El Salvador, or the worker is moved to a workplace in El Salvador of the same foreign company or of another company in its group.

What sponsor, authority, nomination, certification, evidence or other step must occur before the status can be obtained?

The application is signed by the legal representative of the requesting entity (legalised signature). Needed: a transfer letter from the foreign employer (name, start and end dates, position and how the worker will be supported) and an acceptance letter from the company domiciled in El Salvador with notarised signature.

What immigration status and rights result, how long do they last, can family be included, and what happens if the special qualifying circumstance ends?

Temporary residence with multiple entry for up to two years, renewable. Transnational workers cannot apply for definitive residence while they keep the employment link with the transnational company.
