What exactly is this: asylum, temporary protection, humanitarian admission, resettlement or another protection mechanism?

UNHCR Egypt provides new and continuing registration services to refugees and asylum-seekers at its 6 October and Alexandria offices, and interviews people seeking asylum to determine whether they meet the refugee definition under international refugee law. The asylum-based residence permit is issued by the Egyptian Passports and Immigration Administration.

Which competent authority, UN body or official assistance channel should the person use?

UNHCR Egypt (Infoline 0231330000) handles registration and documentation and does not delegate this to third parties; its services and those of its partners are free. The asylum-based residence permit is issued by the Egyptian Passports and Immigration Administration. UNHCR warns that intentionally misleading it about facts or identity is fraud and may lead to a negative decision.
