For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

A citizen of a foreign country wishing to enter Egypt generally must first obtain an e-Visa via the Egypt e-Visa Portal. The Egyptian Embassy in Washington lists Business/Entry/Visit Visa requirements separately for American and non-American passport holders.

Limits of the record
  • The sources give no nationality matrix specific to business visits; the e-Visa fee table covers tourism visas only.
  • The embassy page covers only the Washington consular channel.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

For the Business/Entry/Visit Visa described in the official Egyptian Consulate instructions for its Washington, DC jurisdiction, applicants submit a company letter stating the detailed purpose of the trip and a letter or invitation from the company or organisation in Egypt. The non-American passport-holder instructions give a conference or seminar as an example in the purpose details. These are documentary examples for a business visit; the reviewed instructions do not enumerate every permitted business activity or establish that the separate Tourism e-Visa is itself a Business Visit Visa.

Limits of the record
  • The consular page documents business-visit application evidence in its stated jurisdiction; it does not provide an exhaustive legal list of purposes allowed on this route. The e-Visa FAQ describes a Tourism Visa and cannot by itself establish the Business Visit Visa purpose scope.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The consular business visa is issued as single or multiple entry; a multiple-entry application requires a ticket showing multiple entries into Egypt. The official source does not state the maximum stay, validity period or any rolling-period rule.

Limits of the record
  • No maximum stay, validity period or rolling-period rule is stated for the business visa.
  • Washington consular jurisdiction only.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

For a business purpose, the Egyptian Consulate in Washington DC asks both American and non-American passport holders for two copies of a letter from the company indicating the detailed purpose of the trip and the company's financial guarantee, and two copies of the letter/invitation from the company or organisation in Egypt. For American passport holders, contractors with the US government must also provide an official supporting letter. For non-American passport holders, the company letter must state the person's name, the company they work for in the US, the company they will work for in Egypt, any conference or seminar attended, the travel dates and the length of stay; they also provide two copies of a green card valid for more than 6 months, or of a work visa or student visa valid for more than 6 months with an employment or school verification letter. Applicants also provide a round-trip ticket (non-American holders: a round-trip ticket or confirmed itinerary), an accommodation (hotel) reservation in Egypt, and a passport valid for at least 6 months on arrival with an empty visa page. The official source does not state a funds or insurance requirement beyond the company's financial guarantee.
