Which family relationships qualify?

The request letter must state whether the person for whom the visa is requested depends on the principal through family ties or through an employment relationship; the document list refers to a marriage certificate and the children's birth certificates according to the applicant's status. The official page does not enumerate the qualifying relatives or any age limits.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The sponsor is the principal on whom the applicant depends, and the file requires a copy of the principal's Dominican visa or residence card when applicable.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

DPM is stated for one year with multiple entries. Completing the requirements does not imply approval: the consulate accepts and evaluates the request and sends it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which issues the final decision. Once in the Dominican Republic, DPM beneficiaries have 30 days to present themselves to the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) to formalise residence or temporary-permit procedures, completing DGM's additional requirements under the regulation of Migration Law 285-04.
