What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

To obtain the application form the applicant must first produce a passport valid for at least six months. Unless the status changes to a Work or Residence Permit, the applicant remains a visitor and must hold an Extension of Stay from the Immigration Department, including during the period the application is processed. The application consists of two application forms, one medical form (with HIV and chest x-ray tests) and a checklist, and all required documents must be submitted together, including a medical certificate, two testimonials, a statement of financial position, a recent police record and proof of a return ticket or a deposit covering its cost. The application fee, paid at the Treasury Department, is EC$250.00 for CARICOM nationals and EC$800.00 for non-CARICOM nationals. The official source does not state the permit's validity period, renewal, retention or loss rules.
