What exactly is this: asylum, temporary protection, humanitarian admission, resettlement or another protection mechanism?

Which population, circumstances or geographic group does the mechanism cover?

Foreign nationals under 18 who arrive in Denmark and apply for asylum without their parents or adults acting in their place.

Where can protection be requested, and is this a direct application, border/in-country request, referral or other process?

Only in Denmark: in person at a police station or the police in Centre Sandholm, or, if already holding a residence permit on other grounds, at the police in the district of residence; not via embassies/consulates or in writing from abroad.

What happens after the request: registration, family handling, major support and rights where officially stated?

Applications are processed quickly under special guidelines; the minor is housed in special asylum centres with trained staff and gets a personal representative; the Immigration Service assesses whether the minor is mature enough for the asylum process.

Which competent authority, UN body or official assistance channel should the person use?

Registration is with the Danish police (Centre Sandholm for residents of the Nordsjælland police district; elsewhere contact the local police station first, as not all can register asylum); the Danish Immigration Service determines whether the minor is mature enough for the asylum process and automatically decides on extension before the permit expires.
