What exact status does accumulated residence lead to?

A permanent residence permit under lenient requirements for 18-year-olds (before turning 19) holding a temporary permit.

See recorded sources

What qualifying residence period is required and when does the period begin?

At least 8 years of legal residence in Denmark; the applicant must have turned 18 and not yet 19.

See recorded sources

Which types of residence count fully, partially or not at all where the official rules specify this?

Residence on permits under Aliens Act ss. 7-9 f, 9 i-9 n or 9 p (family reunification, asylum, studies or work etc.) counts during the entire period, including multiple permits in sequence (e.g. family reunification then refugee); at most one year of education abroad can be part of the calculation.

What absence/continuity rules affect accumulation of the qualifying residence period?

Any period since primary school without school or work (other than usual holidays) disqualifies from the lenient rules; education abroad counts only with a valid permit or dispensation from lapse during the stay; normally the applicant must reside in Denmark at decision time.

What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

Other requirements: a sentence of more than six months' incarceration makes one permanently ineligible (shorter or suspended sentences give temporary ineligibility); overdue public debt only with a repayment extension and not above DKK 143,100.98 (2026 level); no social benefits under the Active Social Policy Act or Integration Act within four years of applying; acceptance of a declaration of residence and self-support; Danish language test 2 or equivalent; not having worked deliberately against establishing identity. The official source does not state loss or retention rules.
