What exact activity, role or purpose qualifies?

A priest, monk or nun of the Orthodox Church or of the churches of the religious minorities in Cyprus; the church lists the priests, nuns, deacons and lay missionaries serving it.

What organisation, institution, religious body, charity, teacher or host must support the activity?

The Orthodox Church of Cyprus or one of the churches of the religious minorities in the Republic of Cyprus, acting through its ecclesiastical authority.

What proves the placement, role, affiliation, experience or cultural/religious/voluntary activity?

A list from the relevant ecclesiastical authority naming the clergy and missionaries covered by the application (name, date of birth, passport number, and ARC on renewal). Cyprus-certified medical tests are also required for the first permit.

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

The ecclesiastical authority must certify in writing that it covers the person's expenses, accommodation, maintenance, medical treatment and any repatriation. Holders of a visitor's permit cannot carry out economic activity in Cyprus. The official source does not state whether the church may pay a salary.

How long can they stay, can they change host/activity, can family accompany, and can the status be extended?

The permit is issued for three years (instead of the one year for other visitors) when the church requests it with the required documents. It can be renewed, with a separate renewal document list. The official source does not state whether the host or activity can be changed or whether family members may accompany.
