Limits of the record
  • The source does not use the words retiree, pensioner or financially independent person; the profile comes from the stated purposes and the income requirement.

Which types of income/assets are accepted according to the official source?

Income may include salary, pension, deposits in a bank account abroad, rents, dividends and interest on deposits. As exceptions, dividends from a Cyprus company (with the company accountant certifying that no salary is received), rents in Cyprus, or income in a Cyprus account from salary for previous work in a company of foreign interests. Transfers abroad or to third parties are not counted. For a first permit, a cash transfer or deposit of at least EUR 10,000 is also accepted.

What income, savings or financial-resources threshold applies and how does family affect it where officially specified?

Foreign remittances in the applicant's name must total at least EUR 2,000 per month or EUR 24,000 per year for one person. The amount rises by 20% for a spouse and by 15% for each child. On renewal, the account balance must be at least EUR 6,000 (three months' income), whatever the family size.

No. Visitor-permit holders cannot carry out any economic activity in Cyprus. A dependent spouse and dependent minor children can hold their own visitor permits.

Limits of the record
  • The source does not say whether the dependants may work; they hold visitor permits, which bar economic activity.

How long is the status granted, what is required for renewal, what physical-presence obligations matter, and what longer-term residence direction exists?

The first permit lasts one year, or ends three months before passport expiry if the passport runs out sooner. It is renewable if the criteria are still met, and a renewal needs 12 months of Cyprus bank statements. For wives, children or ascendants living with a visitor, the permit is issued 'up to the validity of the dependent's residence permit'. The official source does not state physical-presence obligations or a longer-term residence direction.
