Croatia applies the Schengen acquis in full since 1 January 2023 and its visa regime is the EU acquis; Schengen visas (type A and C) and national long-stay visas (type D) are issued abroad by Croatian diplomatic missions and consular offices, i.e. obtained before travel.

Schengen visas are issued abroad by Croatian diplomatic missions and consular offices. The visa's validity and/or the granted stay may be extended when the Ministry accepts proof of force majeure or humanitarian reasons that prevented departure before expiry (free of charge) or of serious personal reasons justifying the extension (fee EUR 30).
