What sponsor, authority, nomination, certification, evidence or other step must occur before the status can be obtained?

Before the visa, the backing legal entity must: sign a declaration of financial responsibility for the foreigner's travel and stay, committing to inform the Visa Authority immediately of any change, guarantee the foreigner's return and report any irregular stay (signed by hand with fingerprint, or before a foreign authority with apostille or legalisation); undertake before the Government to guarantee return or report irregular stay; if it is a private entity constituted abroad, provide an apostilled or legalised certificate of existence and legal representation with an official Spanish translation; and show solvency with bank statements for the three months before the application (not required for public entities). The applicant must show bank statements with minimum income equal to three SMLMV.
