How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The application may be submitted from outside Chile or from within Chile depending on the applicant's location, through SERMIG's Digital Procedures Portal. A renewal may be requested by proving that the qualifying family link with the Chilean national or Residencia Definitiva holder remains current. The official page does not state a fixed permit duration, the specific rights granted, or a pathway to independent or longer-term status.
